The game scans the art.

What your creature looks like decides how it fights.

one scan

The game scans the art once. That single scan is where the trait, the class and the stat weights all come from.

“Its head is replaced by a single, colossal, almond-shaped eye, iridescent pale lavender…”

  1. Trait

    Ocular

Ocular pushes Dexterity up in that read, and a power gated to Ocular can only be given to a creature that carries it.

  2. Class

    ClassStriker

Striker guarantees at least 9 Attack and opens with two powers and a passive from the striker pool, behind a basic attack that reaches exactly one tile.

  3. Stats

44 points to place across atk, dex, con, spd, lck.

Ocular pushes Dexterity and Luck. The finished line is derived on demand, so it is never stamped on the card.

    hp = con × 5 · def = con / 3 · mov = 2 + spd / 4 · a turn is one free move and 3 AP

Then you take it into battle.

111,496 creatures, discovered by players.

It all starts from 67 pieces of real hand-drawn art. Meet the OGs.

I don’t think they realize they have a fire in their hat because it does make the lantern kinda redundant.

FAQ

Does Creatures.gg use AI?

Yes, and we would rather say so here than have you find out later.

Every creature traces back to one of 67 originals. All 67 were drawn by illustrators we hired and paid, and their names sit on the card. When you fuse two creatures, our tools mix the parents into a new one, and both of those artists stay credited on it, and on everything made from it after that, all the way down the family tree.

The art budget goes to artists. The machine does the part no studio could draw by hand, which is the other hundred thousand of them.

Who made Creatures.gg?

We’re Elsewhere, a new indie game studio here in San Francisco. Creatures.gg is our first game.

There are not many of us. If you turn up in the Discord you will probably end up talking to whoever built the thing you are asking about.

Does Creatures.gg use NFTs or crypto?

Nope. Absolutely not. No tokens, no wallets, no blockchain.

Although we’re big believers in technology (that’s why we’re using AI), we remain very skeptical of crypto’s ability to make gaming experiences more fun. We think players play games to have fun, not to earn. We make money the good ’ol fashioned way: from our players who like playing our game.

Where do the new creatures come from?

Players. Put two creatures together and you get a third that takes after both of them. There is no recipe list to look up, and nobody knows what a pairing makes until somebody tries it.

Whoever gets there first has their name on that creature from then on.
